Blackberry Acai Smoothie

Blackberry Acai Smoothie

How to add chia seeds to a smoothie

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with chia seeds. The little seeds are known for their omega-3 fatty acids along with increasing your daily iron, fiber, calcium, and magnesium. I’ve read that adding chia seeds to smoothies is an easy way to get a daily serving. The trick is to soak the seeds in water before blending them into the drink.

If you have any chia seed recipes let me know. I loved trying them in my blackberry acai smoothie.

Blackberry Acai Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
½ cup fresh blackberries
1 packet of frozen acai puree (approx. 3.5 oz.)*
1 tablespoon of soaked chia seeds
1/2 frozen banana

Directions:

  1. Soak the chia seeds in a small jar: add 4 tablespoons of water for every tablespoon of chia seeds. Cover the jar, and place the seeds in the refrigerator for several hours. The seeds will soak up the water and become gelatinous. **
  2. When you’re ready to make your smoothie, blend all of the ingredients together. Pour the smoothie into a large glass and enjoy.
